None of us expect it to happen to us, but then it inevitably does. In my case, two times. I’m refering to losing my mobile phone.
The first time I lost my mobile was clearly due to too many drinks on a boys night out. I’d been using my phone while on my homeward journey in a taxi and I must have left it on the back seat of the cab. I didn’t realise what had happened until the following day when I called the cab firm only to hear that they didn’t have my phone. I suddenly became aware of how much of my life was stored on that little device.
I vowed that I would be far more careful in future and get myself some mobile phone insurance to cover the cost of replacement. The cost of replacement was actually the last thing on my mind as I was more concerned by the lost telephone numbers and contact details.
We all do it. When we run into an old friend or make a new contact we immediately enter their contact details into our mobile phones and often don’t even think about transfering those details to an address book.
The second time I lost my mobile phone was on another night out but this time I wasn’t the worse for drink. I am convinced that my phone was stolen by an expert pick-pocket who managed to remove my telephone from the pocket of my jeans without me noticing. The truth is that I probably dropped it on the floor when removing cash to pay for drinks at the bar. I told the club staff but my new phone never turned up.
Stupidly, I hadn’t taken out the mobile phone insurance policy that I’d intended to. But, subsequent to my previous experience I had kept a record of all the new phone numbers and contact details that were on the device so the loss wasn’t quite as disastrous as it had been the previous time.
Is there a moral to this tale? Not really. But I strongly suggest that you backup all of your telephone contact details and maybe get yourself some insurance to cover the cost of a replacement.
